Working at two scales towards the final shows – a large
scale black vertical ploughed piece for the stables at the Museum of East Anglian Life
which will be a companion piece to the white horizontal piece. And 300ish
images cut into circles which are a mixture of images from the three archives –
objects and spaces. These are mixed with images of my work that was made as a
result of looking at the former. All the images are close ups focusing on the
folds within the work and will be pinned to the wall in a mass, as one.

workingthroughwork
one really positive aspect of this
project has been to work in new ways - examining an established
working practice is always positive in the life of an artist, throwing up new
issues and ideas to consider. Learning from making, attempting to make work
that has no definite ending in terms of what it should be or even look like and
to embark on new ways of making is exciting, although a little worrying – a
good state to be.
an example has been a piece of work that has
turned into a ‘quilt – type’ object. Starting off as the interesting material
left after sublimation printing – which was then folded – joined together as
one length – folded pieces of tracing paper were attached as if sections in a
book onto the length – folded into 4 as if a map - tracing paper ripped out
(leaving small elements as traces) – pleats added – length folded into a
bookwork – abandoned - cut into squares – some elements turned to view the back
– all elements joined to make a quilt – finished.

pleatfoldcrease
Another week of completing pieces – often it involves bringing
two pieces together – often it’s a traditional example of a process with
something that is more extensive in its exploration of process and ideas. Pleating and smocking converge here with a
version of the honeycomb smocking sitting within a box pleat, with some heat
pressed sublimation printing which focuses on the crease, when does crease
become fold?

newspaceediting
The new space I'm working in has great light and this along
with a lot of reflective thinking I have realised that a lot of the original
samples are in fact pieces of finished work! This editing process is interesting
and the four piles – finished piece – good idea but needs remaking either in the
same or maybe different materials – useless now but still of some value and the objects often change from one to the other!
